MISSION
Art Analysis is a program service of Art Impact International Inc., a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization dedicated to nurturing humanity through artists and their art.

We believe every artist deserves access to professional art historical expertise—not just those who can afford MFA programs or have gallery representation. Our mission is to democratize the knowledge, language, and credibility that help artists advance their careers.

Why Art Analysis Exists

Most artists face a critical gap: they can create powerful work, but struggle to articulate its significance in the professional language galleries, collectors, and grant committees expect.

This gap isn't about talent—it's about access to art historical expertise.

Without this knowledge, artists:
  • Undersell their work (literally and figuratively)
  • Miss grant opportunities they're perfect for
  • Feel impostor syndrome despite creating excellent art
  • Get rejected from galleries because they can't articulate their vision
  • Lack confidence in professional conversations

Art Analysis bridges this gap by providing museum-quality art historical research at nonprofit rates, with scholarships available to ensure no artist is turned away.
OUR UNIQUE APPROACH
9 Cultural Lenses

Unlike generic art critique or AI-generated feedback, we analyze artwork through eight distinct cultural and historical traditions:

  1. African Diaspora Art
Traditional African art (Yoruba, Benin, Dogon, Fang), African influence on Western Modernism (Picasso's debt to African masks), Harlem Renaissance (Aaron Douglas, Jacob Lawrence, Romare Bearden), Black Arts Movement, and contemporary African artists (El Anatsui, Yinka Shonibare, Kehinde Wiley).

  2. Caribbean/West Indian Art
Indigenous Taíno traditions, African artistic retentions (Vodou, Santería), and European colonial influences creating unique creolization. Haitian art (Centre d'Art movement, Vodou flags, iron sculpture, Hector Hyppolite), Cuban art (Wifredo Lam, Ana Mendieta, Santería traditions), Jamaican Intuitives and Rastafarian iconography, Trinidad Carnival arts, Puerto Rican santos. Contemporary Caribbean diaspora artists navigating island and metropolitan identities, resistance and marronage themes, environmental and climate concerns.

  3. South Asian Art
4,500 years of artistic tradition from Indus Valley Civilization through Mughal Empire. Buddhist/Hindu/Jain sculpture, Gupta Golden Age, temple architecture, mudras and symbolic gestures, Mughal and Rajput miniature painting.

  4. East Asian Art
Chinese calligraphy (the highest art form), landscape painting (shanshui - mountains and waters), ceramics (Tang sancai, Song celadons, Ming blue-and-white porcelain), Japanese ukiyo-e woodblock prints (Hokusai, Hiroshige), Zen aesthetics (wabi-sabi, shibui), tea ceremony culture, and Japonisme's influence on Western art.

  5. Persian Art
2,500+ years from Achaemenid Empire through contemporary Iran. Persian miniature painting (Timurid and Safavid golden ages, Bihzad, Riza Abbasi), manuscript illumination, nasta'liq calligraphy, carpet weaving (Ardabil Carpet, garden and hunting carpets), architectural tilework and muqarnas, paradise gardens (chahar bagh), Sasanian metalwork, Zoroastrian and Islamic symbolism, Persian poetry's influence on visual arts (Rumi, Hafez, Ferdowsi, Nizami), and Persian influence on Mughal, Ottoman, and Central Asian art.

  6. Western Art Movements
Cubism, Surrealism, Abstract Expressionism, Bauhaus, American Impressionism, Pop Art, Minimalism, Conceptual Art, and contemporary movements—understanding where your work fits in the Western canon.

  7. Iconography & Symbolism
Christian iconography, Greek and Roman mythology, Norse mythology, cross-cultural color symbolism, universal archetypes, and how symbols carry meaning across cultures.

  8. Technical Analysis
Painting techniques across all mediums (oil, acrylic, watercolor, encaustic, pastel), material properties, compositional strategies, mark-making, and craftsmanship assessment.

  9. Contemporary Art Market
    C
urrent market trends (2024-2025), pricing strategies for different career stages, collector preferences, gallery dynamics, art fair culture, and strategic positioning.

This comprehensive approach ensures we see your work in its fullest context—culturally, historically, technically, and professionally.
OUR NONPROFIT VALUES

Accessibility
We believe financial circumstances shouldn't determine who gets professional art expertise. Our scholarship program (Artist Opportunity Fund) ensures no artist is turned away.

Transparency
As a 501(c)3 nonprofit, we operate with complete financial transparency. Our EIN is 474-666953. We publish annual impact reports showing how many artists we've served, scholarships provided, and grants our artists have won.

Quality Over Quantity
We limit the number of analyses we accept each month to ensure every artist receives thorough, personalized attention. We're not a content mill—we're a research institution dedicated to excellence.

Artist-Centered
Every decision we make asks: "Does this serve artists better?" Not "Does this maximize revenue?" This guides our pricing, our scholarship program, our turnaround times, and our service design.

Cultural Competency
We honor artistic traditions from around the world. Your work isn't evaluated solely through a Western lens—we recognize and celebrate diverse cultural influences and perspectives.

Mission Before Profit
Every dollar we earn goes back into serving more artists. We don't have shareholders or investors demanding returns—we have a mission to nurture humanity through artists and their art.

BOARD OVERSIGHT & CONFLICT OF GOVERNANCE

Conflict of Interest Policy:
Our founder Carolyn Goodridge is a practicing artist who uses Art Analysis for their own work. To ensure ethical operations:
  • Board approves all pricing structures
  • Founder recuses from decisions affecting personal benefit
  • Services used by founder are tracked and reported
  • Annual third-party review of organizational practices
  • Full transparency in IRS Form 990 filings

This dual role ensures Art Analysis truly serves working artists—because we use it ourselves.

Carolyn Goodridge, Founder

FOUNDER STORY

Art Impact International's, Art Analysis was started by Carolyn Goodridge, a practicing artist who experienced firsthand the struggle of translating visual language into professional written language.

After 45 years creating visual, literary and musical art, mainly encaustic painting, exploring themes of [your themes], Goodridge faced the same challenges many artists encounter:

"I could create the work, sell it but I couldn't exactly help my fellow students and artists explain the art work in the language galleries expected. I knew my paintings drew from multi-cultural, philosophical and scientific influences. I have the art historical vocabulary to articulate it but couldn't broadly share that knowledge with others. I won grants for other nonprofits but I couldn't bare that more artists weren't getting the help they needed."

This frustration led to the creation of Art Impact International's Art Analysis Program, finally launching in 2026. The vision was simple: provide artists with the same level of art historical expertise museums use for exhibitions, but make it accessible and affordable.

As a 501(c)3 nonprofit, we operate on a different model than for-profit services. We're not here to extract maximum profit—we're here to serve maximum artists. That's why we offer three pricing tiers, scholarships for those in need, and refuse to turn away any artist who wants to understand their work more deeply.

Carolyn Goodridge continues to create art and uses Art Analysis for her own work, ensuring the service meets the real-world needs of practicing artists.
